Jon's notes from 10/16 meeting

Here are some random elements in no particular order:

Umbrella Theme: CONTINUITY/COLLABORATION

A look at first year programs

ESL/Writing/Remedial Writing/Writing Centers
Leading into Freshman Seminars

The Boundaries of the Classroom – interdisciplinary work/courses

CLEA site visits and moving toward peer review (Columbia College, Peabody, Cornish, others?)

CLEA’s role in new curricula: Cornish, NWSA? Might their new program be the next Cornish type conference focus?

Uses of Technology in the Classroom
A sober look at what works and what doesn’t work
No techno-evangelism!!!
Individual’s real world experience with:
Networks, Blogs, Courseware, Podcasting, social networking, asynchronous i.e. anytime-anywhere learning, sharing of resources, useful course syllabi at websites (MIT, others)

The CLEA website as a repository of: courses, syllabi, program structures/requirements, ‘modules’ – individual units of information which are posted by faculty and can be combined by faculty to form courses.

Some kind of administrator’s gathering during the meeting. A general sense that it is important to have administrators around in order to get buy-in to CLEA from on high.
