Notes from the CLEA Conference-Planning Session October 16, 2006
Submitted by Jo Sarzotti
The following is a list of individual topics which came up. Some might create sessions in themselves; others could be combined for panels or sessions.
Dissection of one institution’s department, its circumstances, objectives & practices.
Presentation of who teaches Liberal Arts in our institutions, i.e., what the backgrounds, interests, professional status, etc., of our peers are.
Reports on the institutions that have thus far been evaluated by a CLEA team: Cornish, Peabody, Columbia.
Presentation of Freshman Seminars from various institutions.
Presentation by the U of A writing director, John Russo, perhaps combined with reports from other institutions with developed programs, like Cornish
A panel presenting how different schools handle teaching ESL, focusing on those with a full program of evaluation & leveling.
Discussion of a website enabling the posting of teaching models, curricula, etc.
Presentation of Intranet teaching experiences.
Panel on what works, what doesn’t in interdisciplinary teaching.
“Advocacy for Liberal Arts training” – don’t remember what this refers to.
So that’s what I have, along with Peter’s arranging for John Monceri to be a guest dignitary, haing David Krause moderate & titling the whole event “Continuities in CLEA” ( I added the last part)
