FOR A TEACHING TECHNOLOGIES FORUM?
John Baldo at Eastman has mentioned an experiment with new technologies in the classroom. this is from an exchange on 12/4/06:
JON EXPLAINS
The course you're referring to, I think, is not an online course per se: it was offered by my colleague Reinhild Steingrover (our German language and lit. prof.) with colleague in German history at SUNY Buffalo using an Internet II hookup, which allowed two classrooms, two professors, two very different student populations, AND two disciplies to be "virtually" connected at each class meeting and to interact with one another. We used the same technology to interview Steve Reich earlier this semester, together with four British music departments, when he was in London for his big birthday bash recently.
RON REPLIES
I'm sure there were some lessons from this Internet II collaboration. As we move forward in our planning, we might create a forum in which you (or Tim, perhaps?) could explain a bit of what happened (and provide us with the moral of the story!). I'll keep you posted!
AND JON RESPONDS
Sure! As I suggested in my notes to you a while back, my colleague Reinhild Steingrover would be the best person to do this--either via email, or perhaps live at the next CLEA.
